Southampton have won promotion back to the Premier League after beating Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship playoff final at Wembley Stadium.

Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the game in the 78th minute, sending the Saints back to the top flight of English football after a one-year absence.

Leeds, who were aiming to return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence, were left disappointed but can take solace in a strong season that saw them finish second in the Championship.

The match was a close affair, with both sides having chances to win the game. However, it was Southampton who took their chance late on and they will now be looking to establish themselves in the Premier League next season.
