Mark Meadows Georgia Judge

Mark Meadows' Appeal in Georgia Case Rejected

Former White House Chief of Staff's Request Denied

On Friday, February 10th, Judge Thomas W. Jones II of the Northern District of Georgia rejected a request by Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff to former President Donald Trump, to move his criminal case from state to federal court.

Scope of Employment Argument

Meadows had argued that his actions related to the 2020 election fell within the scope of his employment as chief of staff and should therefore be handled by federal authorities. However, Judge Jones disagreed, stating that Meadows' communication with Georgia officials after the election was not part of his official duties.

Ongoing Investigation

The decision comes amid an ongoing investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis into potential interference in the 2020 election in Georgia. Meadows is one of several Trump allies who have been subpoenaed in connection with the probe.

Appeal Filed

Following the judge's ruling, Meadows promptly filed a notice of appeal to the US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeal process is expected to take several months. In the meantime, Meadows' state court case is scheduled to continue, with a hearing set for March 31st.
